Smart solar-powered lighting ensures safety while enabling Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo municipality to achieve its environmental and economic goals

The Fonte Santa Green Park was inaugurated in Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo in July 2024. Built as part of a project to create green spaces and shaded areas in urban areas for the local community, it is a place where people can relax and enjoy the outdoors. The park features a fitness circuit, a leisure area with urban furniture, bicycle parking, and a small lake with a wooden walkway.

Although Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo is a small municipality, it has big ambitions. When it came to lighting this park, the technicians had clear objectives:

  • invest in cutting-edge technologies with an aesthetic design;
  • install a smart system that is as autonomous as possible;
  • contribute to sustainability goals by lowering the environmental footprint;
  • reduce the total cost of the project.


Solar-powered lighting with a solution for everything

The LALUNA solar-powered luminaire proposed by Schréder met all these objectives as it:

  • uses the latest solar energy capture and storage technology:
  • integrates the solar panels fully into the four sides of the column, with the battery buried underground for a modern, elegant design;
  • is completely independent of the electrical grid;
  • uses motion sensors to intelligently manage stored energy;
  • delivers eco-friendly lighting with no greenhouse gas emissions;
  • does not require any electrical infrastructure works so installation is much faster and costs are much lower.

Resilient lighting that stands up to all tests

Solar energy is the most resilient form of energy available. Even in the event of a severe and prolonged power failure, LALUNA luminaires continue to light the park and ensure the safety of its users. This was demonstrated during the major blackout on 28 April 2025, when the entire Iberian Peninsula (Portugal and Spain) and some regions of France were left without electricity for almost 24 hours.
