Smart lighting for Place de l’Éperon
Bespoke luminaires controlled by Schréder EXEDRA contribute to a vibrant urban regeneration project in the heart of Le Mans
As part of the Chronolignes project, the former parking space on Place de l’Éperon in Le Mans has been redeveloped into a green, peaceful and attractive public space. This major urban transformation and public transit initiative spearheaded by Le Mans Métropole aims to promote sustainable transport, support local businesses, and provide a cool oasis in the city centre.
Schréder collaborated closely with the local council to deliver a smart outdoor lighting solution tailored to the regenerated space, creating a welcoming nocturnal ambiance.
Bespoke lighting that combines design and performance
For this square, our Schréder STUDIO team in Bourges designed and manufactured 12 NAJACOISE MINI and MAXI luminaires. Some are pole-mounted while others are integrated into a suspended catenary system, freeing up public space and creating a warm, festive 'guinguette'-style atmosphere.
The luminaires serve a dual purpose, providing high-performance functional lighting for pedestrian paths while offering dynamic event lighting with an unlimited colour palette.
Schréder EXEDRA: dynamic lighting and DMX control
Managed via the Schréder EXEDRA platform using DMX control, this dynamic solution is a key driver of the project's performance and flexibility, enabling:
- customised event lighting with pre-programmed scenarios aligned with the city’s calendar (e.g. red and white for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Pink October or Blue March);
- instant adaptability, with real-time adjustments to suit specific local events (e.g. yellow and red for Le Mans FC matches);
- light pollution control with automatic shut-offs for ambient scenarios at designated times to protect the night sky;
- operational efficiency with full, real-time remote management that eliminates the need for on-site interventions
The result is an easy-to-use and effective centralised management tool that simplifies operations for municipal teams and enhances the visual impact of the installation.
Collaborating for tomorrow’s urban landscapes
This project demonstrates our capacity to provide holistic solutions that combine technical excellence, aesthetic appeal and intelligent management.
At the inauguration in June 2026, the local council emphasised how this new square reflects Le Mans' commitment to the future, offering a climate-resilient public space designed for modern living and sustainable, people-first lifestyles.
