Station Tunnel retrofit lighting

Station Tunnel is a vital road, pedestrian, and cycle tunnel that passes under the railway tracks at 's-Hertogenbosch Central Station. It is an important route for commuters and locals, enabling them to travel from the city centre to the western part of the city without having to cross the railway tracks at ground level.

Opened in 1956, the station now welcomes over 40,000 travellers per day. The entire area is being redeveloped to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists, and to create a more sustainable environment. As part of this regeneration project, the municipality decided to upgrade the lighting in the tunnel as some of the electronic components had reached the end of their service life.
 

Lighting for a more circular economy

From the offset, Johny Schellings, Public Lighting Manager for 's-Hertogenbosch Municipality was very clear: a sustainable lighting solution was essential. 

Working alongside Hoeflake Infra, the maintenance operator, we proposed a solution centered on maximising circularity by reusing the existing luminaires. We delivered a custom LED retrofit kit that integrated seamlessly into the existing fixtures and utilised the original cabling. This approach ensured rapid installation while drastically reducing waste and the need for new materials.
