Ten Towers

Resilient, off-grid solar lighting creates a safe and inviting outdoor space for this regenerated district

Situated in the vibrant Berg am Laim district of Munich, near Leuchtenbergring, the Ten Towers complex is preparing for the future. This striking architectural ensemble comprises five twin towers, which were built between 2002 and 2005. From 2005 to 2022, this 60,000 m² campus served as the regional headquarters of Deutsche Telekom.

Today, as part of a comprehensive regeneration initiative, the site has been thoughtfully transformed into a modern, mixed-use neighbourhood that combines corporate heritage with forward-looking urban design.
 

Setting new standards in sustainability

Building on the complex’s original LEED Gold foundation, the transformation targets the highest level of environmental excellence: DGNB Platinum certification. Every phase of the redevelopment has been designed to minimise ecological impact while maximising long-term community value.
 

Circular thinking in action: autonomous outdoor solar lighting

When faced with damaged, non-functional underground cable infrastructure in the outdoor areas, the project team viewed it not as an obstacle, but as an opportunity to innovate. Rather than undertaking disruptive and resource-intensive civil works to re-lay cables, they opted for a self-sufficient solar lighting solution.

This approach eliminated the need for grid connection and reduced both the carbon footprint and long-term infrastructural overheads.
 

LALUNA, an elegant, environmentally-friendly solar solution

Working in close collaboration with lighting engineering planners HL Lichttechnik, Kiessler Architekten specified LALUNA for this regeneration project. Delivered in a striking black finish, this refined solar lighting solution blends seamlessly into the landscape, while delivering completely off-grid performance. 
As well as providing immediate environmental benefits, this setup protects property owners and tenants from rising electricity tariffs and long-term utility price volatility.

The luminaires feature modern, online controllable light management technology and integrated emergency lighting. Designed specifically to meet the future requirements of the new Leonardo Hotel, they create a safe and welcoming atmosphere in the area at night, without putting additional strain on the local infrastructure.
