A new system of signposts is helping to revive the city centre of Genk by chronicling the city’s point of interests. The local authorities wanted to promote the city by encouraging residents and tourists to discover the different services available and to easily find their way around the city. They asked Schréder to use their expertise to draw up a signage plan and to provide high-quality urban furniture. The main challenge was to create 2 different types of sign posts. One set of sign posts to incorporate detailed information points to inform visitors and another set to guide them to the attractions.
As Genk is an industrial city, the simple and sober design of the Lignum range of urban furniture was ideal to reflect the city’s identity. A touch of colour was incorporated to facilitate indicate different zones; blue for public services, green for parks and orange for commercial streets.
Dotted throughout the city centre, the new signposts have helped redesign the streets and encouraged a discovery of the city with a walking ethos.
