Braga sustainable lighting plan

Nearly 4,000 Voltana LED luminaires light the main streets of Braga, providing improved lighting with significant energy savings

Braga is the third largest city in Portugal and one of the most proactive cities in implementing sustainable policies to preserve the environment for future generations.
It is committed to being a model community by creating a sustainable, high-quality of life for those who live, work and play in the city.
One policy adopted by the city was to reduce the city’s energy consumption for public lighting by using more efficient light sources.

In 2015, the City Council thus decided to replace the lighting in strategic locations throughout the city and in its outskirts with LED technology.

They chose the Teceo and Voltana luminaires to replace approximately 4,000 fixtures equipped with high-pressure sodium lamps.
By doing so, the city has cut the total power installed by around 60%, from 496.5kW to 211.6kW and reduced its CO2 emissions by 571.4 tonnes per year.
This represents savings of approximately €133,000 per year and an estimated €54.000 will also be saved thanks to the long life of the LEDs and the reduced maintenance operations.

The council is delighted as the new luminaires have also improved the lighting conditions, providing a safer and more comfortable environment for its residents.
In addition, they will be able to reinvest these savings in the city.
