Texas A&M University is the largest public university in Texas and one of the 5th largest in the United States. Basketball is one of the most popular sports amongst the students at this university and it boasts a 12,989-capacity arena where the Aggies (the university team) play their matches.
The arena was lit by metal halide lamps that needed to be replaced. Schréder presented the university with a technical study that illustrated the benefits of an Akila LED lighting solution compared with a typical HID luminaire to light this popular venue.
The Akila offers a much longer lifetime, provides instant switch on/off, a higher colour rendering index and dimming possibilities with a 56% reduction in energy consumption!
An offer that the University found hard to refuse.
A total of 122 Akila luminaires now light the arena, enhancing the experience for both the players and the spectators.
