Maracanã Arena - Rio de Janeiro

Lighting solution to safely welcome and boost festive atmosphere

Maracanã Arena was opened in 1950 to host the FIFA World Cup. More than 60 years later, this iconic stadium for tourists and Brazilians alike, has been partially rebuilt to be the host site, including the closing game, for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The venue has increased its size from 189,000m² to 240,000m² and currently seats 78,838 spectactors, making it the largest stadium in Brazil and South America. The objective was to create a safer and more comfortable environment to welcome the spectators and players.
Schréder was delighted to have supplied lighting solutions to help improve this landscape. The Akila luminaire lights the area surrounding the stadium to provide a safe passage for the many spectators arriving and leaving the stadium after matches. The Neos and Terra floodlights provide a festive illumination of the stadium to boost the festive atmosphere.
