Energy efficient lighting solution brings a new lease of life to Wavre town centre

With energy savings a key priority, the local authorities of Wavre in Belgium chose the Valentino LED to breathe new life into the pedestrian area of the town centre.
The lighting with low-pressure sodium lamps was no longer providing the necessary levels. The local authorities were keen to attract more people into the town by providing a safe and convivial environment that they could enjoy and to boost trade for the local restaurants and shops.
In addition to the new lighting, other improvements including new pavements were made in the area to give it an overall facelift.

Roger Le Bussy, Director of the Wavre Electricity Corporation explained “It is important that the luminaire fits with the local environment and contributes to enhancing the streets by day and by night. We really wanted to revive this area at night and high-quality lighting is essential to achieve this objective. It has to make people feel safe and comfortable. However we also wanted to reduce energy costs”.

With its elegant design, the Valentino LED was an ideal solution for this town centre. It perfectly integrates the environment, bringing a touch of charm to the daytime appearance and creating a welcoming atmosphere at night.
Equipped with the latest in LED technology and a dimming system, the luminaires significantly minimize power consumption, generating substantial energy savings for the town. Indeed, the luminaires are dimmed to 80% in the evening to not only save energy and but also contribute to the cosy ambiance that the restaurateurs wanted to create on their terraces. During the night, they are dimmed to 60%.

The local authorities are pleased with the new lighting which has enabled them to reduce energy costs while creating a new look and feel for the town centre. Local businesses and the inhabitants are also delighted to rediscover the charm of their home town.
