As part of a regeneration programme, Mae d’Agua square in Bragança, Portugal has been transformed into a park and playground for the local residents. A bike path leading to the park has also been extended by one kilometre. The goal was to create a high-quality urban space to promote leisure and sport activities and thus improve the quality of life for the inhabitants.
A high-quality lighting solution is essential for this type of project as it contributes to making the area secure by night and providing a sense of well-being for the users. The local authorities were also keen to install an aesthetic solution that creates a warm and welcoming environment by day and by night so that the residents could take advantage at all times. They also wanted a solution that would reduce energy consumption to a minimum.
A total of 20 Perla luminaires were installed to light the paths and the perimeter of the park while 8 Neos LED floodlights illuminate the children’s playgrounds. They diffuse a white light for a convivial atmosphere and optimal visual comfort.
More than 60 Neos LED floodlights equipped with 32 high-power white LEDs light the new bike path extension. They are mounted on special columns that were designed by the architects from A1V2 and developed by Schréder. They add a fun dimension while the LEDs create a very pleasant environment by night. The use of an LED solution for this part of the bike path has reduced energy costs by 54% compared to the existing bike path equipped with 70W metal halide lamps.
Just over 10 Piano luminaires light the car park.
The LED solutions provided by Schréder proved to be decisive for the Bragança local authorities as they achieved their double objective of improving the quality of life for the inhabitants with minimum energy consumption.
