To meet the specific needs of roundabout lighting, Schréder has developed a specific reflector for use in several urban lighting luminaires such as Calypso, Super Saturn, Image, Gema or Citea (*).
It can also be incorporated into the Neos 3 floodlight.
The luminaires from the Rotonde range provide maximum vertical lighting levels over vehicles entering roundabouts and on edges of central islands.
This lighting fixture and the lamps used will be carefully designed to provide a clear lighting distinction between the roundabout and the background street lighting.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ILLUMINATING ROUNDABOUTS :
The following criteria will be taken into account:
Optimum positive contrast between the vehicle driving around the roundabout and the background;
50% higher level of horizontal lighting than that of the access roads. Without public lighting, the horizontal illumination level will be minimum 10 lux;
The vertical illumination level 2 m from the outer edge of the central island will be minimum 15 lux;
No glare;
Clear distinction with the illumination of access roads.
Examples:
- higher illumination level;
- different colour of light sources;
- other type of luminaires;
- different type of installation and mounting;
- different pole heights.
If these criteria are met, the lighting of the roundabout will be effective because it will be possible to detect its presence, its layout and the vehicles from a distance.
